When my kids first joined our family they were 6 and 8 and spoke no English. I’d read aloud to them anyway, in a hybrid of pointing at pictures, simplifying the text in English, and mangling a translation in their language. They’d been home a month when my son said, “kerplink, kerplank, kerplunk” while dropping pebbles on the ground. Straight from Blueberries for Sal. I was so thrilled! I’m glad your guy was able to make that text-to-self connection too!
I love that! Using a mentor text to share his love of his new shoes. Warms my heart.

Cool shoes. Love Pete the Cat too. As he continued to sing the song. I find once it gets in my head it loops for awhile.
Yay! Pete the Cat rocks and so does your son!
This is the cutest thing I’ve seen all day! LOVE PETE THE CAT! (fun fact, there is a Pete the Cat board game!)
my heart is happy. Now, what would be your foot/shoe mentor text? 😛
Um..I’ll get back to you about that!
I thought the same before I saw the book! That’s awesome! Nice kicks too 🙂
