What I’m Loving Wednesday 7.13.16

♥  Not only do I love the emails I have been getting from a student all summer, but one was about poop emojis!  They are my favorite and she knows it!

♥  Spending time with my Best Friend!

♥  My 2016-2017 Planner and Coloring Book in one!   Genius!

♥  Museum of Science and Industry with Troy

We spent over two hours in the Lego Exhibit!  Troy was in heaven.  My favorite is always Colleen Moore’s Fairy Castle.

♥  Technically, It’s Not My Fault

This is an amazing book of concrete poems.  Even the cover is a concrete poem.  They are funny, engaging, and thoughtful.  This is going to be part of my library in the fall!

Screen Shot 2014-12-23 at 2.05.13 PMcrafty♥  Troy’s version of American Ninja Warrior – Even if it left my couch more broken and bruises on Troy’s legs!

♥ Purple Pens (I need to buy a new box of them for the new school year!)

Drive Me Crazy is on Netflix!  I know it isn’t the highest quality acting or story, but I love it anyway.

♥  Staple Guns!  This was my first time using a staple gun and it was so fun!  It probably helped that my projects were successful!

♥  Waking up to this crafty mess!  Yep, I’m strange like that.  I absolutely love crafting and messes.  Waking up and seeing all of the things we had created was a great feeling!

♥  Friends – Especially nerdy and weird friends!

My friends like to craft.  They get excited about creating.  They love Disney movies.  They enjoy writing and are willing to spend 12 days at an Illinois Writing Project PD and an entire day writing at a writing marathon.

Screen Shot 2014-12-23 at 2.05.13 PM♥  My Three Year Old Nephew’s Brilliance

He tried to say, “Bye Sucker!”  to his mother.  She told him he wasn’t allowed to say sucker unless he was talking about the candy sucker that he ate on the airplane.

So, now when he says goodbye to me, it goes like this:  “See you later alligator!  In a while crocodile!  Bye sucker on a plane!”  Gotta love it!

♥  Being on the other side of an interview.

Last week I had the opportunity to be part of the interview process for a new hire at school.  This was my first time on the interviewer side and it was so interesting.

Observation:  When asked what they would do if they realized a lesson wasn’t working out, most new teachers talked about having a back-up plan.

I don’t make back-up plans for lessons.  Is it just me?  Is this something they teach you to say in college now?  Me…I make one plan.  If/when that plan doesn’t work, the second one is spur of the moment.

Thanks for the Linky Michelle!

♥  Everything about Summer!  Waking up late, which means around 7 for me…Drinking coffee on the couch…Reading, writing, browsing Pinterest, and watching my son draw or build with his Legos…Afternoons at the pool…I love everything about summer!

51jt1hDk0GL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_20150610_134350♥  This book!  I just finished Brown Girl Dreaming, my second book off my summer reading list. It was so beautifully written, capturing the time period and a little girl’s coming of age.  Jacqueline Woodson wrote in verse about growing up in a time when the country was changing and people were fighting for equality.  One more book to add to my classroom library for next year!

♥  My new phone!  Now I have a phone that will stay charged!  Woohoo!

What I’m Loving Wednesday 2.18.15

Screen Shot 2014-12-23 at 2.05.13 PM     The last few weeks have been ROUGH, both personally and professionally.   I really am in no mood to write about what I’m loving today, because honestly, I’m not loving much.  However, since I’m feeling like this, I’m thinking it is more important than ever to remember that I am lucky. So…here it goes…

♥  I have a job that doesn’t involve dressing like the Statue of Liberty and dancing on a busy road.

Every time I pass by one of those people I feel bad that they have to dance in the gold wearing that outfit to earn a living.  I am also extremely grateful that I earn my living doing a job that makes a difference, that gives me a creative outlet, and that does not require a costume.

51R6KBB4YSL♥   The Tale of Despereaux:  Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup and a Spool of Thread

I love this read aloud with our third graders!  We just started it this week and the kids are enjoying it.  We read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane earlier this year and so the kids were excited to read another by Kate DiCamillo.  I love how the author addresses the reader in each chapter!

Seeing pictures like these remind me how lucky I am to have one amazing boy!

♥  Kindergarten Minds

While observing in a kindergarten room today, I heard this conversation.  The teacher was modeling drafting using pictures and labels for nonfiction texts.  Her topic was cars and a section of it was about what cars need.

Student A raises his hand, “You forgot to put an engine.  All cars need engines to run.”

Student B, “Well, actually, I need to tell you,” speaking to A, “not all cars have engines.  Some run on engines, some on        gas,  some on batteries.”

“And some are electric,” chimes in Student C.

The conversation went on between the students, ultimately it was decided to include the picture of the engine.

♥ Winter Break!

I really think that teachers love breaks even more than the kids, evidenced by the fact that Winter Break ended up on Michelle’s list today, too!  I love being a teacher, but it is a demanding job.  Winter break is a necessity to stay sane!   The last week and a half has been spent sleeping in, watching Netfilx, and hanging out with my son.  Perfection and it isn’t over yet!

Being an aunt!

Winter break has given me plenty of time to spend with my special little nephews!

♥ NUMB3RS

This is the latest TV show on Netflix that I have been binge watching.  It is about an FBI agent and his mathematician brother solving cases together.  I know I’m not the only person out there watching season after season of TV shows because I see pins about it all the time…

♥ Pinterest

That brings me to my next thing on the list today…Pinterest.  It makes me feel like I’m not alone in so many things:  binge watching Netflix, an addiction to food, insecurities…

♥ Being Single

This isn’t a new development, but I haven’t really been openly sharing the fact.  I’m truly enjoying being only responsible for me and my son.  After ten years in a relationship and sharing decisions and a room, I get to make decisions without consulting anyone else.  I don’t plan staying single forever, but I will enjoy it for a while!

Always on my list and always the most important!
