What I Saw in the Teachers’ Lounge

What I Saw In The Teachers' Lounge

We read this book, What I Saw in the Teachers’ Lounge, yesterday for read aloud.  This kid peeks into the teacher’s lounge and sees a rainforest, teachers surfing, and teachers riding on camels near the pyramids.  One of the favorites was the PE teacher wrestling a grizzly bear.  So, when the kids went to PE they asked him..

“Mr. J. we have a question.  Do you wrestle grizzly bears in the teachers’ lounge?”

“Ya, all the time.”

“Really!?!  What else do you wrestle?”

“Oh, you know lions, tigers…”

Then they walk into the gym.  “Oh cool!  I want to go in the teacher’s lounge.”

This is why I love third graders.  They know the difference between fantasy and reality, but they are young enough to wonder if something could really happen.  With a good story and a few convincing white lies, they believe in magic.

  1. That is great! I gotta get that book. It will make a terrific reading strategies lesson and a fun writing idea. Thanks for the recommendation!

  2. That’s why I love PreK. They are still so in the magical thinking. So, your white lie doesn’t even have to be convincing to rope ’em in. Cute story. Thanks for sharing!
